Prof. Azhar Bin Ariffin of the University of Malaya - ranked 87th in the QS world university rankings - arrived at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) at the start of October for his six-month secondment in the frame of the MEGA project.
Recognised as a leading authority in organic synthesis, Prof. Ariffin obtained his PhD from Nottingham University.
To kick-off his stay, Prof. Ariffin gave a lecture entitled "Synthesis, Characterization and Physical Properties of Carbazole Derivatives for OLEDs" to the research staff and students of KTU’s Department of Polymer Chemistry and Technology.
Over the past few weeks, Prof. Ariffin has been designing several new series of potential thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) emitters as well as performing initial theoretical estimations of their photophysical parameters. Now, together with two KTU PhD students - Bernard Ronit Sebastine and Levani Skhirtladze - Prof. Ariffin has begun synthesising the new organic compounds.
Before his secondment at KTU is completed, Prof. Ariffin hopes to have fully photo-physically characterised the new organic compounds.
