Visiting Lille to synthesise
 new electroactive molecules

26.05.2022

Mariia Stanitska from Kaunas University of Technology is currently on secondment at Labkicosmos with the aim to design and synthesise new electroactive molecules, preferably exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF).

During her staying in Lille, France, Mariia has designed two series of TADF compounds with D-A structure by performing some quantum chemical calculations. The designed compounds have small singlet-triplet energy gap and their frontier molecular orbitals are separated.

The first series of the compounds have quinone core in their structures. Quinone fragment fused with another aromatic moiety allows to obtain red emission. Mariia applies different reaction conditions in attempts to form quinone ring. The second series of the emitters is based on pyrene which is used as a synthon for design of new compounds potentially exhibiting TADF.

In addition to obtaining research results and improving molecules design and synthesis skills, the stay in Lille gives Mariia an opportunity to explore local culture and learn French.
